J.R.Heffelfinger's debut feature had its world premiere at the 28th Mill Valley Film Festival in California and whose debut feature was reviewed as being "touched by the spirits of Kurosawa and Imamura, filled with unexpected wonders and gentle humor, and radiating with the resilient glow of life." He was recently noted in Variety as "an emerging talent." His film has shown around the world at major art venues in San Francisco, Boston, New York City, Berlin and Tokyo and his recent works have been televised.
J.R.Heffelfinger was born in New York City in 1980. His parents are from the island of Puerto Rico, but he was born and raised in Brooklyn. J.R.Heffelfinger started to play the trumpet when he was 10 years old and won a scholarship to attend Juilliard Conservatory while he was entering into High School. He attended the famed Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music, Art & the Performing Arts, where he crafted his talent for music. While in High School he performed on many occasions in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center with the New York Youth Symphony, ISO and Jazz Ensembles. J.R. was accepted on an academic scholarship to attend Boston University.
While at Boston University he began his film studies and wrote works for the stage and screen that won accolade from his peers. He Graduated from the College of Communications in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Film Theory and Film Production with a concentration in Modern American Literature and a minor in English Literature. While attending Boston University J.R. was selected to work for Spike Lee's Production Company '40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks Inc. as an intern where he worked along side the Director of Story Development.
Recently he has directed, written and produced several commercials for Coca-Cola in partnership with AKQA for their global on-line marketing campaign and is a founding member of Saber Seven. He is currently a Multimedia Producer for Saber Seven and directs and produces exciting new media initiatives for the company. He currently resides in New York City.
