Scott Laughlin

Scott started his career at International Data Group (IDG). At IDG, he served in various positions, capping his early career with the launch of The Web, a magazine about the Internet.

Following IDG, Scott was the earliest senior manager of LinkExchange, an internet marketing pioneer. Microsoft acquired LinkExchange in 1998, following which he worked as a Group Program Manager overseeing the creation of various web-delivered applications. Following Microsoft, Scott returned to IDG as a Partner in their venture capital group. IDG Ventures manages over $600M in early stage capital invested in North America, Europe and China.

After IDG Ventures, Scott became the inaugural Director of the University of Maryland's VentureAccelerator, a program which spins out companies based on University intellectual property (IP). At the University, Scott currently serves as an adjunct faculty member in Entrepreneurship and a member of the Advisory Board for the A. James Clark School of Engineering's Technology Advancement Program (TAP).

Scott has served as an advisor to or investor in several early stage technology companies, including Zappos.com, TellMe, Xythos Software and iLike. Currently, Scott advises a number of early stage technology companies in the areas of marketing, sales, revenue generation strategy and general management. He also serves on the Board of Directors of LM&O Advertising (full service agency), First Juice (organic foods), Zymetis (a biotech alternative fuels company), College Parents Services (a member service organization) and Saber Seven.

Scott received his undergraduate degree in Politics from Princeton University.
